Shopify Entrepreneur Weekly

Helping Shopify merchants navigate the Shopify ecosystem for winning outcomes

Hey there! πŸ‘‹

Welcome to HeyCarson's weekly newsletter. I have some exciting updates and tips for you this week. So grab a cup of coffee and let's dive in! β˜•οΈ

As January wraps up, I know what's on the horizon... Shopify Winter Editions! πŸ₯Ά Twice a year, Shopify drops the latest updates, sharing 100+ improvements they've made or have in the works over the past 6 months. Don’t know about you but I’m excited to see them!

Another thing that's been on people's minds lately is that Google has started testing a new 'Tracking Protection' feature in Chrome from January 4th. At first, they'll test it out with just 1% of Chrome's global users, but they plan to roll it out to more people in the second half of 2024 😬 The goal of this feature is to block third-party cookies from tracking your online activity across different websites. Keep in mind, this might have an impact on Google ads, but we'll learn more about it soon, hopefully.

P.S. Just a friendly reminder that our team is always here to lend a hand with any design or development tasks you may have. Feel free to shoot us a message through our chat, and we'll get right back to you!

See you next week,
Lidia from HeyCarson

πŸ“° Top projects of the week

Hey, take a look at these cool projects our developers worked on for our clients' Shopify stores this week:

– Recently bought. The developer made a display of recently purchased items with made-up names and random products that pops up at the bottom of the page, adding a sense of urgency.

– Lookbook. This features allows you to create an expansive representation that highlights different parts of the product where users can view an in-depth look by hovering over specific elements/pins.

Chrome has retricted third-party cookies by default for 1% of users. The company has faced criticism and regulatory scrutiny over its proposals for replacement technology. However, with the release of Chrome 115 in July, support for the Privacy Sandbox set of replacement standards will be included, allowing companies to test them on a wider scale. Users will have the option to activate these standards without joining a trial or enabling browser flags. For more information, read the full article.

Notion is launching Notion Calendar, a standalone app that integrates with its all-in-one workspace. It's the result of acquiring Cron in 2022 and meeting the demand of Notion users for an integrated calendar system. With features like Calendly-style booking tools and automatic blocking of work meetings on personal calendars, Notion Calendar aims to be the go-to app for all your company's needs.

Some people claim Notion isn't really that useful. Sure, the customizability is enticing, but it does add to the overall complexity. On the flip side, there are those who can't live without it and insist that you just need to get used to it because it's super handy. What do you think?
