Industry news

  • Shopify now allows up to 25 automatic app-based discounts per shop using discount apps.

  • Finding apps with the features you need in the Shopify App Store is now easier. You can search and browse apps by category or feature, like 'Live chat' or 'Inventory sync,' to get recommendations. The Categories section of each app listing also shows its features.

  • Address validation is now available in the address fields of the Shopify admin. The Companies, Customers, Draft Orders, and Shipping Labels pages now validate addresses to help merchants avoid delivery delays or failures.

  • Managed Markets now provides an address correction service for all labels. This is a new service to help increase address accuracy, and ultimately decrease returned packages.

  •  Amazon has launched Amazon Haul, a budget-friendly marketplace offering items directly from China to compete with Shein and Temu. The platform features products priced at $20 or less, with most under $10, and offers a separate shopping experience from Amazon's main site.

  • Shopify President Harley Finkelstein confirmed during an earnings call that the company does not plan to enter the CRM market, despite suggestions that it could compete with Salesforce. This follows recent remarks by Shopify about acquiring "hundreds" of commerce customers from Salesforce.

A new eBay Advertising survey shows what’s hot and what really matters for online holiday shopping. Make sure your store is stocked and ready!

  1. Value for money: 57% (46% of those aged 18-24)

  2. Free shipping: 47% (up 10 percentage points from 2023)

  3. Deals and coupons: 40%

  4. Product quality: 34%

  5. Fast shipping in five days or less: 25%

The research also revealed the most popular online gift categories:

  • Clothing and shoes: 88%

  • Toys and games: 77%

  • Holiday items: 76%

  • Consumer electronics: 73%

A controversial art piece called "Comedian," featuring a banana duct-taped to a wall, was sold for $6.2 million at a Sotheby's auction. Created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, the piece gained fame at Art Basel Miami Beach in 2019. Cryptocurrency entrepreneur Justin Sun purchased a certificate of authenticity, allowing him to recreate the installation. After laying out millions, he says he's going to eat the banana.
