ShopOps weekly
Helping Shopify merchants navigate the Shopify ecosystem for winning outcomes

Hi there,
Jon here,
ShopOps is our weekly newsletter for brands on Shopify on their way to 7-8 figures - short, sharp, and curated for Shopify founders building real businesses.
I'm really glad to finally see the shopexperts services directory get off the ground in February. We made over 200 connections between brands and experts. Thanks for being a part of it.
We're particularly excited about our expansion in the marketing services and finance services. The big idea with our directory is that we've removed expert commissions - this means experts are less likely to inflate their quotes to cover this platform tax.
All of our competitors take this cut, and experts almost always pass it down to their clients.
We also believe in having an open platform where brands can find, choose, and compare experts on their own. All expert listings are open with customer reviews and case studies.
As the founder, I'm using this weekly email to connect and reconnect with the 20k brands we've served at HeyCarson and shopexperts since 2015. No AI spam - just practical breakdowns, real brand stories, and operators worth knowing.
Please hit reply to tell me if you like the format, or if we can improve.
I'd also love to connect on Linkedin.

Case Study: Scaling an Athleisure Brand to $8.5M (+37% YoY)

The athleisure space is crowded. Everyone’s chasing the same customers. But with the right creative and disciplined media buying, saturation isn’t the real problem.
In 2024, Tarun Kapoor, paid media manager, partnered with an athleisure brand to do one thing:
Scale hard — without killing profitability.
What worked:
They pushed beyond retargeting and went after cold audiences early.
They optimized for customer fit, not cheap clicks.
Q1–Q3 was testing. Q4 was execution.
Discounts were strategic — used to acquire customers, not clear stock.
Lesson: If you’re scaling paid media and not watching return rate alongside revenue, that’s the blind spot.
Full breakdown available if you want it.

Brand Story: From a basement Pokémon binder to $5M/month

During lockdown, Logan (Hobbiesville co‑founder) dug up his childhood Pokémon card binder.
He noticed something strange: demand for collectibles was exploding — but buying them online still felt sketchy and outdated.
So he and co-founder Edmond Georges built a modern, mobile-first hobby shop: Hobbiesville.
Within weeks, their tiny storefront turned into a shipping warehouse.
Bubble mailers everywhere. Thousands of cards moving daily.
Then came the moment they realized this wasn’t just a hobby shop:
“We started overwhelming the local post office every single day.”
Today, Hobbiesville does about $5M/month in revenue.
Proof that sometimes the best ecommerce ideas come from asking one question:
“Why is this buying experience still so bad?”

App Spotlight: rePete
The OGs at Bold Commerce are back. After 9 years, they’ve released a brand-new Shopify app – rePete – and it’s built to solve one of the biggest problems in ecommerce: repeat purchases.
80% of customers will never commit to a subscription.
That’s where rePete comes in. Think of him like your favorite barista — he remembers what customers like, learns their personal buying habits, and sends friendly, perfectly timed reorder nudges right when they’re about to run out.
The result:
• Turn one-time buyers into repeat customers
• Get customers to reorder more often
• Increase order value over time
And the best part: pure upside, zero risk. rePete only makes money when you make money.
If you sell products people reorder, this one is definitely worth trying.
Bold has a waitlist for this, but I have 3 golden tickets to get you to the front of the line. Reply to this email to skip the velvet rope and jump to the front of the line.
