ShopOps weekly

Scripts migration, cart optimization, shoppable posts — and one wild brand story

Hi there,

Jon here.

Quick one this week - but a few things you don't want to miss:

  • Shopify scripts die April 15 - if you're on Plus and haven't migrated yet, this is urgent

  • Shop feed just got shoppable posts - broader reach, scheduled content, video support

  • Brand story - they launched a juice brand in -30°C Toronto winter and sold out in an hour

  • Case study - how one Shopify brand increased AOV 41% in 30 days with a gift-with-purchase system

Shopify Updates You Can't Miss

1. Shopify Scripts shut down April 15

If you're on Shopify Plus and still running Scripts, the clock has run out.

  • April 15 — Scripts can no longer be edited or published

  • June 30 — Scripts stop running entirely

Checkout logic, payment customizations, shipping rules, discount conditions – anything built on Scripts goes dark. This isn't a soft deprecation. It's a hard shutdown.

The replacement is Shopify Functions – faster, more flexible, built for modern Shopify. But migration isn't copy-paste. The logic needs to be rebuilt, tested, and validated. For stores with complex checkout customizations, this is a real engineering effort.

What to do right now:

  • Run Shopify's customizations report to see every active Script

  • Map each one to a Functions equivalent or a public app

  • Prioritize checkout and payment Scripts first (highest business impact)

  • Test thoroughly before June 30

The stores that handle this now will barely notice the transition. The ones that wait will be scrambling.

Need help migrating Scripts to Functions? A Shopify Plus expert can audit your current setup, rebuild the logic properly, and get it tested before the deadline.

2. Updates is now Posts — shoppable content in the Shop feed

Shopify renamed and upgraded Updates to Posts – and the difference is meaningful.

  • Add images or video (up to 2 min) with a caption and optional headline

  • Tag up to 10 products or a full collection to make content shoppable

  • Schedule posts in advance and set an expiration date

  • Sync video content automatically via Tolstoy, Videowise, and other connected apps

The key change: Posts aren't limited to your followers. They appear in the main Shop feed ranked by relevance, giving your content reach beyond your existing audience.

Why it matters: Most brands treat the Shop channel as an afterthought. Shoppable, schedulable posts that reach new shoppers organically are a meaningful upgrade worth testing.

What to do: Go to the Posts page inside your Shop channel. Set up one post this week – tag your best-selling product and schedule it. See what the reach looks like.

Brand Story: They Launched in a -30°C Toronto Winter. Sold Out in an Hour.

January 2014. Toronto winter. Three people, a storefront doubling as a production facility, zero guarantee anyone would show up. They sold out in the first hour — and spent every night after producing enough to sell the next day.

They Added a Progress Bar to the Cart – AOV Went Up 41%

Ranger Station wanted a gift-with-purchase promotion. Shopify's native tools couldn't handle the logic – gifts appeared in the wrong place, pricing broke, customers were confused. So they built a custom system with a progress bar showing exactly how close each customer was to unlocking their reward.

First 30 days: AOV up 41%, cart abandonment down 18%, customers hitting the $100 threshold jumped from 38% to 67%.

❤️ Quick Pulse Check

Last week we asked: "Is wholesale on your radar?"

Interesting split. 41% have wholesale on the list but haven't moved on it. With B2B now available on every Shopify plan, that's the easiest it's ever been to start. If you're in that group and want to know what "setting it up properly" actually looks like — reply and we'll point you in the right direction.

This week's question:

Think about the last time you made a change to your store. How did you decide what to work on?

A) Data — analytics, heatmaps, test results
B) Gut feeling — it seemed like the right move
C) A mix of both

Reply with A, B, or C.
