ShopOps weekly

Analytics insights, multi-metric charts, and the A/B tool you should be using

Hi there,

Jon here.

This week is a practical one:

• Shopify quietly improved analytics (this one matters more than it looks)
• a checkout UX change that affects conversion
• a founder who went from spreadsheets → 30K orders in 2 months
• one simple test you can run this week

If you run ops, growth, or product — this is for you.

Shopify Updates You Can't Miss

1. Shopify is starting to tell you what matters in your data

Shopify rolled out automated analytics insights.

If you’re doing ~10+ orders/week, you’ll now see trend summaries directly on your dashboard.

What it actually tracks:

• changes in traffic, add-to-carts, conversion
• patterns by device, location, referrer
• fulfillment speed + shipping performance

No more digging through reports to spot issues.

Why it matters:
Most stores don’t have time to analyze data properly. This surfaces what’s changing — early.

What to do:
Check your Home dashboard this week. If something spikes or drops, act on it immediately.

2. Checkout just got cleaner for local pickup

Shopify simplified how pickup shows in checkout.

Before: long, messy list of locations
Now: nearest option first + cleaner selection flow

Why it matters:
Less friction at checkout = higher conversion (especially for multi-location brands).

What to do:
If you use pickup, quickly test your checkout flow. Make sure your setup still makes sense.

3. You can now compare metrics properly

Analytics now supports multi-metric charts.

You can combine things like:

• revenue + conversion rate
• sessions + add-to-cart rate
• orders + AOV

Why it matters:
This is how operators actually think. Not in isolated metrics.

What to do:
Start pairing metrics instead of reviewing them separately. That’s where insights come from.

From Local Butcher Shops Closing to £650K/Month Online: How They Rebuilt Trust at Scale

Ryan Morrison didn't set out to build a sportswear brand. He was trying to solve a problem for his university rowing club — no supplier could deliver quality kit without a huge minimum order or a long wait. So he produced a small run himself.

Word spread. Other clubs came calling. Then a mental health campaign went viral and 30,000 orders landed in two months. The scrappy spreadsheet operation had to grow up fast.

Today Rivalkit does $180K/month in custom sportswear. What's interesting isn't the viral moment — it's what Ryan learned after it.

Shopify Rollouts – The Tool is Free, The Strategy Isn’t

Rollouts is now available on every plan from Basic upward, and it's more capable than most stores realise.

What it actually lets you do:

  • Draft theme changes directly on your published theme — no duplicate themes needed

  • Schedule campaigns, sales, and seasonal updates to go live at an exact date and time — and revert automatically when they end

  • Run structured A/B experiments with real traffic on Advanced and Plus plans, tracking conversion rate, bounce rate, checkout rate, and add-to-cart rate in one dashboard

The setup is straightforward: Admin → Markets → Rollouts → Create rollout.

Why most stores won't get value from it

The tool is only as good as the hypothesis behind it. Most stores that run their first Rollouts test pick something arbitrary — a banner color, a button label — see inconclusive results, and conclude that testing doesn't work for them.

A CRO expert starts from your actual data. They identify where customers are dropping off, build a test around a specific friction point, and know how long to run it before the results mean anything.

Rollouts gives you the infrastructure. A CRO specialist gives you the playbook.

❤️ Quick Pulse Check

This week's question:

How would you describe your current Shopify tech stack?

A) Lean — we use as few apps as possible
B) Somewhere in the middle — a few too many but manageable
C) Bloated — we've accumulated apps and half of them probably don't earn their keep

Reply with A, B, or C.
(We read every response)

Last week we asked: "What's your biggest blocker when it comes to growing revenue right now?"

Nearly half said conversion is the biggest blocker — not traffic. That's the right answer to be honest about. Most stores have enough visitors. The gap is in what happens after they arrive. The Shopify Analytics updates this week are a direct response to exactly this problem.
